Throughout the session practitioners will learn how to further support children with SEND by looking at how to adapt the environment, practice, and the curriculum.

Audience

This online session is for practitioners who are trained Special Educational Needs Coordinators within their setting. We strongly recommend that SENCos Designated Persons (DP) access SENCo refresher annually alongside attending at least one SENCo Network session.

Aims

This session will provide participants with updates to support the skills and knowledge required of a SENCo DP within an early years setting in Cambridgeshire.

Practitioners should update themselves with their setting SEND procedures.

Audience

The SENCo DP course and role are appropriate to the skills, knowledge, and experience of a level 3 practitioner (although level 2 or working toward level 3 in some circumstances). Settings may have a maximum of two trained DPs - please do not book a place if you already have two trained DPs.

Aims

This course will provide participants with the necessary basic skills, and knowledge to become the named SENCo DP in their setting. Broad areas covered include:

  • Legislation and guidance
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Inclusive practice
  • Partnership with parents/carers
  • Identification and support for children with emerging needs or SEND
  • Practical application of Graduated Approach to SEND
  • Cambridgeshire-specific SEND processes and SEND funding streams
  • Introduction strategies to support children with SEND.

Additional information

Please note, that this course will be delivered in three online sessions. There will be additional reading and setting-based tasks for learners to complete in between the sessions. Learners must complete all aspects (including the additional work) to complete the course.
