
Audience
This course is suitable for all practitioners working with children, particularly staff new to safeguarding training. The course content is developed specifically for staff working within an HAF setting.
Aims
This safeguarding course will introduce practitioners to the categories of abuse and neglect and their signs and indicators. Data will be shared relating to the prevalence of child maltreatment. Practitioners will be familiarised with Cambridgeshire’s safeguarding and child protection protocols.
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Safeguarding Children Board have validated this training for its quality and relevance to national and local policy.
This course will enable compliance with section 3.24 of the statutory framework for the EYFS, 2024: "Training made available by the provider must enable staff to identify signs of possible abuse and neglect at the earliest opportunity, and to respond in a timely and appropriate way."
A certificate will be issued for attendance which is valid for three years.
Additional information
If attending online, participants are expected to interact with the trainers and where possible have their cameras on. The participant will be expected to complete follow-up activities in the setting with the Designated Person for Child Protection.

This course is for practitioners refreshing and extending their basic child protection knowledge. The course content is developed specifically for staff working within a HAF setting.
For newly employed staff, 'Basic Child Protection' training will be appropriate.
Aims
This course will present the latest safeguarding updates both nationally and locally. Practitioners will revisit a range of signs and indictors of possible abuse and neglect using case studies to reflect upon. This course helps practitioners build on their knowledge and skills. Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Safeguarding Children Board have validated this training for its quality and relevance to national and local policy.

Audience
The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in settings should be senior members of staff (ideally Level 3 with at least two years post-qualifying experience), who have attended the Basic Child Protection or Basic Child Protection Refresher course within the last three years.
Consideration must be given to part-time and shift hours to ensure a DSL is available in the setting during all opening times. Therefore, there will usually be a need for more than one trained DSL in a setting.
Schools: This course is designed for practitioners working in HAF provisions and is only suitable if you have on-site childcare provision.
Aims
To gain an in-depth understanding of the role and the responsibilities of the DSL in an early years and childcare setting. To feel confident in fulfilling the requirements of the role.
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Safeguarding Children Board have validated this training for its quality and relevance to national and local policy.
This course will support compliance with section 3.24 of the statutory framework for the EYFS, 2024: "A practitioner must be designated to take lead responsibility for safeguarding children in every setting".
A certificate will be issued on completion of the full course.

This is a two-part course, part one in person and part two online. To receive a certificate, you must complete all sessions.
