Audience
The DSL for early years and childcare in settings should be senior members of staff, ideally level three with at least two years post-qualifying experience, who have attended the 'Basic child protection' or 'Basic child protection refresher' course within the last two years.
Consideration must be given to part-time and shift hours to ensure a DSL is available in the setting during all opening times. There will therefore usually be a need for more than one trained DSL in a setting.
Schools, please note that this course is designed for practitioners working in early years and childcare settings and is only suitable if you have on-site childcare provision.
Aims
To gain an in-depth understanding of the role and the responsibilities of the DSL in an early years and childcare setting. To feel confident in fulfilling the role's requirements and have the skills to liaise with local statutory children's services agencies and local safeguarding partners.
This course will support compliance with section 3 of the statutory framework for the early years foundation stage.
A certificate will be issued on completion of the full two-day course.

Audience
This training is suitable for DSL for early years and childcare, including childminders, who will gain the knowledge and confidence to manage concerns of domestic abuse and provide support for children, families and staff. A Keyperson or room leader may be designated as suitable to undertake this training as instructed by their manager.
Aims
National research shows that the impact on children experiencing or witnessing domestic abuse can be wide-ranging, damaging, and in some cases, dangerous. It can impact a child’s achievement, emotional wellbeing, behaviour and learning; the lasting effects mean that early support and intervention are crucial.
Participants will gain the additional knowledge necessary to become the domestic abuse lead for their setting to enable them to deal confidently with disclosures and provide support for children and families. The session will include a reference to the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, which updates the definition of domestic abuse and recognises children experiencing domestic abuse as victims in their own right.
The session will include references to domestic abuse referral and assessment processes, including the multi-agency risk assessment conference, and the vital role that early years settings play in reducing the risk to children who live with domestic abuse and violence through the use of appropriate information sharing.
Additional information
Due to the impact of this training, we do not require participants to have their cameras on for the session.

We would encourage all staff, from administrative staff, practitioners, and committee members. We will require 45 minutes before the start to set up the equipment.
