The course will revisit basic knowledge of the categories of abuse and neglect, look at the statutory guidance and local child protection procedures, build confidence when responding to concerns about a child or young person’s welfare and revisit how to respond appropriately if an allegation is made against you or a colleague.

Aims
- Gain the required and in-depth understanding of the role and the responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead when working as a childminder.
- To respond and record, and effectively refer concerns or allegations in relation to safeguarding in a timely and appropriate way.
- To understand and follow legislation, national and local procedures, codes of conduct and professional practice in relation to safeguarding.
This course will support compliance with section 3 of the statutory framework for the early years foundation stage. The training must be refreshed every two years.
Additional information
The course consists of two parts – To be certified, both parts need to be completed in the same term during the academic year.
Participants must complete a basic safeguarding training course before attending.
Part one involves watching a Microsoft Sway in the participants' own time. Followed by submitting an information sheet, provided at the end of the session. Participants are then expected to attend part two online at the designated time. Additional handouts and slides will be shared at the end of the second session.
All participants are expected to have their cameras on and be willing to engage with the trainers.

Childminders who have previously completed the Designated Safeguarding Lead for early years and childcare training.
Aims
To refresh the childminder's understanding of their safeguarding role and responsibilities, provide relevant updates and support confidence.
This course will support compliance with section 3 of the childminder early year foundation stage statutory framework.
"The childminder is the Designated Safeguarding Lead and the childminder must attend a training course consistent with the criteria set out in Annex C."
A certificate will be issued on completion of the full two sessions and will be valid for two years.

This session will help you to develop an understanding of current equalities legislation, raise awareness of equality issues and what inclusion should look like in everyday practice. You will be encouraged to reflect on your own personal ideas and attitudes, evaluate what you are already doing and consider how to further develop your practice to create an inclusive environment for all who come into your setting. In this session, we will consider the role childminders have in identifying and supporting children with emerging needs and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). We will discuss Cambridgeshire’s Early Years SEND Toolkit and develop an understanding and the importance of early identification. This session is designed to develop your understanding of teaching and learning. We will focus on the variety of ways children learn and how we can plan and create a curriculum that enables us to teach all children to get ready for starting school. We will also consider how we gather information when children begin in the setting and how we ensure smooth transitions when they move on.
This session is an opportunity to learn and share together, so please come ready to share examples of your practice.
