Year 6 Writing Moderation 2026
Thursday 27 and Friday 28 November 2025 – Preparing for Assessment Course – Included in this training will be a look at the new moderation visit format introduced in 2024. Especially pertinent for school leaders who were last moderated in either 2022 or 2023. Places can be booked on the Core offer tab on Booking Bug.
Friday 15 May 2026 (TBC) – Majority of schools who will be moderated in 2026 by Cambridgeshire LA will be contacted by email at midday. (Schools selected by STA for a 48-hour notice moderation will not be contacted on this day.)
Wednesday 20 May 2026 – Meeting for Year 6 teachers and Headteachers in schools being moderated at Over Community Centre. 1.30pm until 5pm.
Monday 1 June 2026 – Online meeting for Year 6 teachers and Headteachers in schools being moderated who were unable to attend the training on the 20 May 2026. 4pm until 5.30pm.
Monday 1 June until Friday 26 June 2026 (TBC) – Moderation visits are carried out.
Friday 26 June 2026 (TBC) – Deadline to submit Year 6 teacher assessments for writing on the National Curriculum Assessments Portal
Courses
End of Key Stage 2 Writing Assessment:
Audience: Year 6 teachers
Focus: This two-part course provides Year 6 teachers with a forum to clarify and discuss the teacher assessment of writing. Key documents produced by the Standards and Testing Agency will be explored and discussed. Teachers will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues to analyse their pupils' current attainment, identify gaps, and plan next steps. By participating, teachers will ensure their assessment judgements are accurate and aligned with the expectations set out in the end of Key Stage 2 Teacher Assessment Framework for writing
Structure:
Session 1 12 or 13 November 2025 – Over Community Centre 1.30pm until 4.30pm. Cost: £85 for Cambridgeshire LA schools or £95 for Cambridgeshire Academies and out of county schools. Booking: English tab on Booking Bug.

Unpicking the Teacher Assessment Framework:
Audience: Year 6 teachers
Focus: These online sessions build on the End of KS2 Writing Assessment course. Local Authority moderators will guide participants through materials developed by the Standards and Testing Agency. Participants will gain a clear understanding of key assessment elements, strengthening their ability to make accurate and robust judgements.
Structure:
