PE is statistically the curriculum area that carries the highest level of inherent risk, and in turn the area where colleagues are often in need of advice and support. We are the only LA based school Physical Education Advisory Service in the entire region, and Ian Roberts, the CCC PE adviser is one of four National PE strategic advisers, respected widely for his expertise and insight.
For many PE practitioners, we are the authoritative, go-to place for guidance. In the last 12 months, we have been contacted by over 80 academy based colleagues for advice, ranging from the need for technical information for PE facilities, Transgender policies, curriculum and OFSTED advice, to providing support and reassurance for colleagues following accidents, and legal advice. Ultimately, because we prioritise staff and young people having a safe, and fulfilling experience, we have always tried to give fair advice, and have not charged schools for this.
The Physical Education Service offers academies the opportunity to have access to a robust level of support and advice through a range of membership packages. Support available
- Telephone, email and online support
- Newsletters and updates
- Access to PE network sessions
- Assured Health and Safety advice
- Bespoke consultancy
- In-depth Physical Education health-check
- Reduced workshop fees
We want to support schools, irrespective of whether they are maintained or not, but unfortunately, we will need to encourage academies to pay for this in the future. Rather than charge schools for individual consultancies, we have a package available for academies and non-maintained schools that has been designed to enable schools to have access to the same level of expertise that is available to LA schools. The best analogy would be to consider it akin to a PE version of the RAC! For reference, this would be regarded by the DfE as a good use of the PE Premium.
The Physical Education Service offers a bundle-type suite of packages for academies to select a level of support and advice applicable to their own needs.
