In light of the new DfE duty ‘Working Together to improve School Attendance’, schools should use multiple types of early intervention to offer support and remove barriers.
Below you find template letters for
- Early intervention - used prior to a pathway.
- Attendance Contract letters, which are used for arranging, monitoring and ceasing the Attendance Contract.
- Notice to Improve, letter which explains referral to the Local Authority, please note the actual Notice to Improve template letter will be provided to you directly from Legal Panel following a referral.
- Term time leave – suspected holiday letter and unauthorised term time leave response letter.
We acknowledge that Multi Academy Trusts have the right to use their own letters for early intervention and Attendance Contract pathway, however we strongly suggest using the templates below. These have been carefully crafted based on the new duty and expectations of legal proceedings.
Please remember that letters can be sent as an attachment via email, however if they contain a legal warning they must be sent via Royal Mail for evidence purposes. Each letter and email must be addressed to each individual parent.
Below are examples of attendance policies, please note that these are only examples and have been written to provide a guide on potential layout and wording. Each policy has been adapted to suit a range of cohorts, it is important that your attendance policy contains all the requirements as set out in the DfE duty and that your attendance policy is relatable to your cohort and is available on your school website.
