Access and inclusion 

Each area team has an Access and inclusion coordinator who, alongside the Link practitioners, can offer advice for schools supporting the access of children vulnerable to exclusion.

If a child taking up their funded hour entitlement in a school-run pre-school is vulnerable to exclusion or on a reduced timetable, please contact ey.send@cambridgeshire.gov.uk for support and advice.

Cambridgeshire Exclusion and Suspension Guidance June 2023

Department for Education Suspension and Permanent Exclusion from maintained schools, academies and pupil referral units in England, including pupil movement.

Cambridgeshire will be updating the Cambridgeshire guidance to reflect the new DfE document. You may wish to refer to the  headteacher checklist below:

You may be aware that the DfE have reviewed their exclusions and suspensions guidance (it is linked in the Cambridgeshire Exclusions section above along with the head teacher's checklist and example exclusion/suspension letters that you may find helpful.)

Cambridgeshire will be producing updated guidance during the Autumn term.

In the new guidance, schools must inform the LA ‘without delay’ of an exclusion. To aid this we have set up the following inbox for schools who do NOT use SIMs

Those using SIMs do NOT need to use this system as their exclusions automatically feed through to LA.

  • Pupil Name
  • Pupil DOB
  • Pupil UPN
  • School Name
  • Category: Fixed Term, Lunchtime only Exclusion or Permanent.
  • Start Date & End Date
  • Reason:
    • Bullying
    • Damage
    • Drug/Alcohol related
    • Misuse of social media
    • Persistence Disruptive Behaviour
    • Physical Assault (Adult)
    • Psychical Assault (Pupil)
    • Racist Abuse
    • Sexual Misconduct
    • Theft
    • Verbal Abuse (Adult)
    • Verbal Abuse (Pupil)

Temporary reduced timetable guidance and a word version to use are below:

You can use this form to notify the Local Authority of a Temporary Reduced Timetable for Primary school’s only.

Cambridgeshire have developed a Steps behaviour policy guide. This can be used by all schools whether they have accessed Steps training or not. If you would like support using the guide, please contact your Link practitioner or the Cambridgeshire Steps and Trauma Informed Lead.

SEND Service 0-25 Suspensions Hotline is open daily 2 pm to 4 pm (term time only). Outside the operational hours a message can be left on the voicemail system and the on-call practitioner will make contact at the earliest convenience.

The phone number for the hotline is 01353 612812.

The hotline is staffed by members of the SEND Services team who can offer advice and information around suspensions or permanent exclusions. If you would like clarification around aspects of suspensions or are unsure of procedures, then this can be discussed on the phone.

The phone is not for reporting suspensions or expulsions – this information is collated separately from the hotline. If the practitioner is on an active call when you call in there is an opportunity to leave a voicemail for a call back.
