Welcome to CambsEYC Forest School, an innovative approach to outdoor education and learning.

Our vision is for every child and young person in Cambridgeshire to have access to regular and ongoing child-initiated outdoor experiences following the Forest School ethos. We would like Forest School sessions to be available for all children and young people to enhance the curriculum, accelerate achievement and bring learning to life.

Regular Forest School sessions provide opportunities:

  • To learn and develop through their explorations in woodlands or wild spaces
  • Engage with the natural world using all of their senses, exploring the environment, and developing a deep respect for nature.

We are delighted to announce that from September 2023, forest school qualifications will be delivered by our new training provider, Under the Hazels Ltd. led by Carol Middleton. Under the Hazels will be delivering both the Level 2 Forest School Assistant and Level 3 Forest School Leader training. These qualifications will equip you to learn the practical skills, and theoretical and nature knowledge needed for a forest school to succeed. Carol, who previously delivered qualifications under the training provider Huathe, has extensive experience in mentoring and nature connection learning. Carol has also previously worked as a teacher and early years professional and is fully endorsed by the Forest School Association. Please view the Under the Hazels website at www.underthehazels.org.

In addition, we are also continuing to work in partnership with Cambridgeshire Skills for the next academic year. Cambridgeshire Skills will be supporting our forest school delivery by providing funding for both Level 2 and Level 3 learners. Learners can benefit from fully funded training if they live in Cambridgeshire, are out of work or earn less than £22,500. Funding can also be achieved by meeting other identified funding criteria. For more information on funding please visit Cambridgeshire Skills.

An appropriate level of First Aid competence is an essential part of operating as a Forest School practitioner. The Forest School Association (FSA) recognises and supports the provision of First Aid training that is delivered at the appropriate level, by trainers with outdoor knowledge and assessed in a fair and relevant way (Forest School Association 2016).

As part of your Level 3 Forest School Leader training, Cambridgeshire County Council delivers the 16-hour outdoor first aid to complete this requirement.
