Specialist Support
Where there are concerns relating to a child’s social communication, parents or carers may be identifying that they think their child may be autistic settings should work in partnership with parents and carers to support the child. The graduated approach cycle should be undertaken in agreement with parents. When settings, parents or carers would like to seek further support or guidance the following sources may be relevant.
SEND Surgery – SEND Surgeries to provide an opportunity to get advice on what to do when you think a child may benefit from additional support. We can help you understand the Early Support Pathway and wider SEND offer. Please outline the areas you wish to cover when making your booking via Booking Bug. Please note it is a requirement, unless parental permission is in place, that children remain anonymous.
Health Visitor – Parents or carers may raise their concerns with their Health visitor particularly if they are due to have a healthy child review.
Early Support – Where there are wider concerns beyond, speech, language and communication or concerns about a child’s social communication that are significant and complex a referral to Early support may be more appropriate. If the parents and carers agree the setting needs to undertake an Early Help Assessment.
Children in Reception Class schools may refer to early support or in some circumstances (particularly later in the school year) refer via the school-age autism pathway.
