Children who have needs within this area will be impacted in diverse ways depending on their specific needs, they may have a difficulty in some or all aspects of communication and interaction and these may be further impacted by needs in other areas. Children’s ability to communicate and interact effectively underpins many other areas of development and influences children’s ability to engage with peers, access learning opportunities, ability to understand and be understood. The impact of a child not understanding or being understood is often observed through the child’s behaviour.
