Benefits of sharing stories with little ones
Mini makes
Many thanks to Heidi Latronico of PECT for creating our Family Activity Pack and for providing these videos which show you how to complete some of the activities shown in the book.
Please note, that children should be supervised whilst completing the activities to ensure their safety. Particularly when handling small or sharp items. Remember to also wash hands after touching soil, mini beasts, or litter/recycling.
Makaton songs and signs
Many thanks to Katie Durrell, Makaton tutor, for producing these videos for us. Thanks also to The Makaton Charity for supporting our Festival of Stories work.
British Sign Language (BSL) signs from the forest
Many thanks to Emma Wright, Forest School Advisor, for this video which shows you how to use British Sign Language to sign some words for things you might see in a forest.
Moth resource
Many thanks to Rose Feather for creating this resource about moths. The resource will be shared with families at Rose’s storytelling sessions.
Make your own paintbrushes
Many thanks to Ellie Sandall for creating this resource about using recycled materials to make paintbrushes. The resource will be shared with families at Ellie’s storytelling sessions.
Aiken Drum's treasure hunt
Many thanks to Marion Leeper for creating this resource about Aiken Drum. The resource will be shared with families at Marion’s storytelling sessions.
Make, Do and SEND
With the theme of Festival of Stories being Reconnect, Reuse and Recycle we were inspired to create idea sheets in creating DIY ideas that use recycled and reused resources to support children with accessing stories and songs, but with the needs of children with SEND particularly in mind. We know that resources can be costly but reusing and recycling materials creatively we can create resources that are engaging and supportive, whilst also helping the environment. The sheets explain how to make the resource and ideas on how to use them with children, which will be dependent on the individual needs.
Many thanks to Belinda Brigham, Early Years SEND Team, for sharing these story focussed resources.
Books about the environment
BookTrust's selection of books aimed at babies and toddlers teaches about animals and nature and will inspire them to care about their environment.
Audio stories, and resources
The3Engineers have recorded their children’s stories as audiobooks, created free content for teachers to use with their students, and fun activity sheets for everyone.
Educational, inspiring and fun activities for children
PECT has created a multitude of resources to enhance your children’s understanding of the world around them and to enable them to discover more about the environment.
