Babies and young children are learning behaviour, just like they are learning how to move their bodies and communicate. As key people, consider ways you plan for this in everyday provision.

To support Cambridgeshire County Council’s new Inclusion for all strategy we have created some new resources and updated a previous resource to support inclusive practice for all children.
Inclusion without labels – Inclusive practice is a commitment to valuing and respecting the diversity of individuals, families and communities and must sit at the heart of early years practice. It ensures that every child has an opportunity to learn and grow, ensuring that they are treated as individuals and supported regardless of their background or who they are. This document supports you in understanding high-quality inclusive practice to meet the needs of all children.
Reasonable adjustments – This document supports those in leadership positions in an Early Years setting to understand their duty to make reasonable adjustments to meet the needs of all children and what settings should or must do to meet the needs of children with SEND.
OAP Audit tool – This helps you understand what is meant by Ordinarily Available Provision (as defined in the SEND Code of Practice) and audit your setting to understand what you are already providing or what further steps you could take.
Cambridgeshire Development Journal – This document was previously known as the Cambridgeshire Early Years Developmental Journal. It has been updated in line with new documents released by the Department for Education to support the assessment of children with SEND. It links in with the OAP audit tool so you can use the two documents together to understand how your ordinarily available provision may support a child’s needs.
The documents are currently found on our Knowledge Hubs:
- Cambridgeshire County Council Early Years Leaders (PVI)
- Cambridgeshire Early Years SEN Coordinators
- EYFS School Practitioners (Cambridgeshire & Peterborough).
Contact your early years adviser if you have any questions about the documents.
