Maths club activities
The Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge has produced a webpage to support maths activities. The tasks are designed for use outside of the classroom, in maths clubs, or as liaison activities between primary and secondary schools. The activities are particularly suitable for groups of learners who are keen and motivated and can spend plenty of time exploring and discovering new ideas.
Activities for 10 to 13 year-olds
There are lots of activities you can do with children that explore maths in the real world. Helping your child see the maths in things they are doing anyway helps them understand that maths is not just a school subject. It is useful outside of the classroom too.
Outdoor maths games and activities
To celebrate Maths Week Scotland 2020, a pack of 25 maths games was compiled to provide strategy games and challenges from around the world which can easily be played anywhere. Most of them have their origins in traditional games and variations can be found in many countries. They serve to demonstrate that a love of strategy, tactics and social interactions is an important aspect of our way of being as a species.
Games to do at home
Third Space Learning has comprised 25 fun maths games for kids to do at home. All the educational games on their website are suitable for Key Stage 2 children, and most of them can be adapted for Key Stage 1.
