Autism

Autism, social communication, speech, language, and communication need is often called a 'hidden difficulty'. There are some useful pages on the SEND Hub.

  • Ambitious about Autism allows you to speak with like-minded people about your parenting journey and access support, information, and news. Ambitious Youth Network is an online youth network for autistic people to connect with others and access opportunities.
  • Pinpoint is an independent information, support and involvement network for parents and carers of children with additional needs, running workshops and events across Cambridgeshire, including ADHD and ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) support groups.
  • Do you think your child has autism? A helpful page on assessment and resources by NHS Cambridgeshire Community Services.
  • What if you think you are autistic and you are 18 years and older? If you think that you may be autistic, you can meet with your GP to discuss your concerns. Your GP will refer you to the Primary Care Mental Health Service [Size: 442 KB, File: DOCX], and they will complete an initial triage with you. This information will be used to make a referral.
  • Twice Exceptional is an Educational Podcast by a young person with neurodiversity

Learning Disability

  • Contact is a national charity offering support and advice to families with disabled children, including a comprehensive guide for families with disabled children.
  • The Annual Health Check scheme is a free, yearly appointment with your doctor or practice nurse, usually near where you live if you are 14 plus years old. They will ask how you keep yourself well and whether you need help.
  • The Learning Disabilities and Autism Programme can improve the lives of children, young people or children and adults with autism or learning disability, behaviour that challenges and mental health issues.
  • Mencap provides helpful information and support lines. The differences between learning difficulty and learning disability.
