About Post-16 OAP Toolkit

Post-16 SEND OAP Toolkit

Who is this for?

This resource is for schools and other education settings. The purpose of this is to define for Schools, and Further Education providers in Cambridgeshire what provision should be (ordinarily) available young people with SEND. We hope this will also support parent, carers and professionals to work with schools to support people with SEND.

This post-16 toolkit is to support the SEND Code of Practice 2015 which states:

SEND Code of Practice 1.34

‘…schools and colleges do what is necessary to enable children and young people to develop, learn, participate and achieve the best possible outcomes irrespective of whether that is through reasonable adjustments for a disabled child or young person or special educational provision for a child or young person with special educational needs (SEN).’

Schools and colleges should offer an inclusive approach to learning and teaching, with high quality teaching which is differentiated for individuals. This should be embedded in their provision in all subject areas and at all levels, and support the teaching of all students, including those with SEN.

To support educational professionals, we have added the following sections to some of the pages, as suggestions only:

  • Quality First Teaching: Through differentiation normally met through core and programme funding.
  • SEN Support or Targeted Support: More targeted support for those students who require further input to access their course normally met through delegated additional funding (not through high needs funding).
