Teach in Cambridgeshire: Primary NQT Pool

Primary NQT Pool

Each year, Teach in Cambridgeshire runs an NQT pool for candidates who are currently in or have recently completed Initial Teacher Training. In the Spring term of the academic year, we open up our pool process for the September of that application year.

Please note that we are no longer accepting application for September 2017. All information on this page is for reference only. If you are an applicant that would like more information, please visit the Teach in Cambridgeshire website.

  • For schools: Access to a pool of well qualified staff who have been through a robust vetting procedure, meaning that you can focus on what is important for your school.
  • For NQTs: One application form and one interview, after which your details will be circulated to all Primary Schools in Cambridgeshire who have a vacancy. You will then have the opportunity to choose which schools to visit and/or find out more about.

How does the NQT pool system work?

Information for schools and for applicants

When the NQT pool application process is open, candidates are invited to apply to our NQT pool by completing the application form below. Subject to the application meeting our person specification, and there being interview availability, we will offer candidates a pool interview.

There will be a panel of at least two Headteachers for interview. Candidates are also asked to teach and reflect upon a short lesson.

Should an interview be successful, candidates will be accepted into the pool and asked to tell us more about their ideal position.  Interested schools will invite candidates to visit them so that you can decide whether you would like to engage in a conversation with them about employment.

Please note that acceptance into the pool is not a guarantee of employment. Any offer of employment will be made by the school, not the Local Authority.

Please find guidance as either a Headteacher that is involved in interviewing or as a Headteacher that would like to appoint an NQT from the pool.

If you are a candidate that would like to find out more information on how to apply, please visit the Teach in Cambridgeshire website.

  • "Lots of schools contacted me after I had been accepted onto the pool, more than 20."
  • "The best part of the experience for me was going through the interview process in a situation with slightly less pressure and competition than a direct interview for a school. I found the feedback on the day constructive and the interviewers welcoming."
  • "Many thanks for allowing me to be part of the Cambridgeshire Pool, it was really valuable in helping me to begin my teaching career."

Access to the NQT pool

Only schools that are signed up to the Teach in Cambridgeshire recruitment and retention package can have access to successful candidates in the NQT pool. If you would like to find out more information about the Teach in Cambridgeshire recruitment and retention offer, please visit this page.
