Early Childhood Development Worker

This is a description of the roles and responsibilities required of the Early Childhood Development Worker.

We are looking for dynamic and compassionate people who will join us as Early Childhood Development Workers in Fenland and East Cambridgeshire Opportunity Area.

  • To engage with new parents and carers to raise awareness, knowledge, and confidence of their role as primary educators and to raise the profile and importance of home learning
  • To raise awareness of the benefits of early years care and education and support and encourage parents and carers to access a broad range of early years activities

The following criteria are appropriate for this role. You should meet the essential criteria in order to be shortlisted for the role, and it would be advantageous if you meet the desirable criteria.

  • Evidence of successfully implementing the Early Years Foundation Stage within your own setting, and good underpinning knowledge of child development
  • Understanding the benefits and impact of parental engagement on children’s learning and their associated outcomes, e.g., home learning, engaging with early years activity
  • Experience of effective partnership working with parents, other providers, Child and Family Centre's how to signpost parents to other services, e.g., Health services, JobCentre Plus
  • Ability to work flexibly in a variety of contexts be self-motivated, self-confident, and enthusiastic
  • Ability to demonstrate awareness/understanding of equal opportunities and evidence how equality of opportunity is embedded in practice

  • Knowledge about local contact points for new parents, e.g., Toddler Groups, Library groups
  • Experience in developing parental networking and peer support
  • Ability to use appropriate systems and technology
